Talk to Your Trading Journal: Use Claude (or Any AI) to Review Your Trades

You journal your trades to find patterns. But let's be honest — most traders don't dig through their own data as often as they should. Filtering spreadsheets, exporting CSVs, and building pivot tables is exactly the kind of tedious work that gets skipped, which means the lessons in your journal stay locked up.

That changes today. LogYourTrade now ships an official MCP server, and it's free on every plan — including the Free plan.

What is MCP?

The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets AI applications like Claude Desktop and Cursor connect directly to your tools and data. Instead of copying trade histories into a chat window, the AI reads your journal live — with your permission, through a key that never leaves your machine.

In practice: your AI client becomes a trading coach with perfect memory of every trade you've logged.

Ask your journal anything

Once connected, questions like these just work:

  • "What's my win rate on TSLA over the last 3 months?"
  • "Show me my last 10 losing trades — what do they have in common?"
  • "What's my profit factor this month vs last month?"
  • "Review my trading plan for this week against my recent trades."
  • "Which symbol is dragging down my P&L?"

The AI can browse your trades, pull your stats (win rate, P&L, profit factor, per-symbol breakdowns), read your playbooks, and check your weekly trading plans — so its feedback is grounded in your actual rules, not generic advice.

Set up in 3 steps (under 2 minutes)

1. Get your API key. Create a free account at LogYourTrade, then open Settings → API Keys and copy your key.

2. Paste the config into your Claude Desktop config file (claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "logyourtrade": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "logyourtrade-mcp@latest"],
      "env": {
        "LYT_API_KEY": "lyt_your_api_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Cursor users: the same snippet goes in .cursor/mcp.json.

3. Restart your client and start asking. That's the whole installation — npx handles the rest. The full setup guide with all six available tools lives at logyourtrade.com/mcp.

Read-only, private by design

The server gives your AI read-only access, scoped to your account through your API key. It can query trades, stats, accounts, playbooks, and plans — nothing else. No data is written, and your key stays on your machine.

Why we built this

We believe the point of journaling is review, and the best review is a conversation. Every journal has charts. Very few answer questions. And as AI clients become a daily workspace for traders, your journal should plug into them natively — not through CSV exports.

As far as we know, LogYourTrade is the only trading journal with an official MCP server. If AI-assisted review is part of your workflow, there's now exactly one place to get it.
